Fewer grout lines
At Interiors by Wanda Michelle, we will always recommend larger format tiles primarily because of the aesthetic value. With the tile providing more coverage there are no visual divides creating a wallpaper effect. You need a tiler with experience to lay such a tile, which requires very specific adhesive. In the past if your artisan broke a tile or two it was not an issue, but the individual cost of a tile leaves little margin for error. But with such an investment comes durability compared with other flooring methodologies especially when the large format tiles are used for wall covering.
Less cleaning
Cleaning grout lines is an arduous task that requires special chemicals and an inordinate amount of elbow grease. The easiest way to age a tiled floor is to allow the grout to become stained with mildew and dirt. Kitchens, scullery’s, showers, and heavy traffic areas, where pets may be coming in from the garden, are the worst areas to clean. Your large format tiles, with the correct spacing, does not need much more than a wipe with a cloth.
